Standard Operating Procedures Manual
The Public Schools of Brookline is committed to providing students with disabilities access to the curriculum and general education programs. With in-district resources and necessary consultative services, we provide the instruction needed to help students close the achievement gap between their current skill levels and grade-level expectations.
The Office of Student Services has reviewed and revised previous training materials, which are now compiled into the Special Education: Standard Operating Procedures Manual . This resource includes additional guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and addresses questions raised by families.
The manual is intended as a resource for Brookline PK–12 staff, administrators, and community stakeholders. It references both state and federal regulations but is not intended to be an exhaustive list. The policies and procedures outlined are aligned with:
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71B, and Special Education Regulations (603 CMR 28.00 et seq.)
- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004 and 34 CFR 300 et seq.
- Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended)
*The linked document is reviewed and updated regularly throughout the school year to remain aligned with current state and federal guidance.*
